I just wanted to say what an amazing site!  Keto has quite a following in my office so I decided to give it a try.  There's so much conflicting information out there so I bought your cookbook (Keto All Day) to get my head around the things you can eat, then decided to give it a try.  I also bought what I thought was your app - KetoDiet - which was free to try but then it cost me nearly £30 to get full functionality!  Its not bad but there are no recipes or tips like your own app - PLEASE EVERYONE!! If you are looking for Martina's app look for the OFFICIAL KetoDiet site with the yin & yang fish icon!  Don't get caught out like I did with expensive wannabe apps.
Look, keto is simple. Please stop complicating it. You can honestly eat any food and stay in ketosis as long as you eat less than 25-50 grams of carbs a day. If you are an athlete you can eat up to 100 carbs per day. No food, I repeat NO FOOD is a keto food. Like hummus? Eat it! Like pineapple? Eat it! Unless you have a metabolic disease that causes your body to be super sensitive to sugar you can eat pretty much any whole food and remain in ketosis.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital protocol for initiating the ketogenic diet has been widely adopted.[43] It involves a consultation with the patient and their caregivers and, later, a short hospital admission.[19] Because of the risk of complications during ketogenic diet initiation, most centres begin the diet under close medical supervision in the hospital.[9]
Although many hypotheses have been put forward to explain how the ketogenic diet works, it remains a mystery. Disproven hypotheses include systemic acidosis (high levels of acid in the blood), electrolyte changes and hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose).[19] Although many biochemical changes are known to occur in the brain of a patient on the ketogenic diet, it is not known which of these has an anticonvulsant effect. The lack of understanding in this area is similar to the situation with many anticonvulsant drugs.[56]
Shawarma refers to cooking on an open spit and shaving off the meat when it is cooked, but this tastes just as good cooked in a grill. The whole family will love these whether for the main meal or if you are grilling outside for family and friends. The mix of spice gives this dish a lovely result – just remember to soak the skewers in water first if you are using wooden ones to avoid them burning.
If you choose to make your sauces and gravies, you should consider investing in guar or xanthan gum. It’s a thickener that’s well known in modern cooking techniques and lends a hand to low carb by thickening otherwise watery sauces. Luckily there are many sauces to choose from that are high fat and low carb. If you’re in need of a sauce then consider making a beurre blanc, hollandaise or simply brown butter to top meats with.
During the 1920s and 1930s, when the only anticonvulsant drugs were the sedative bromides (discovered 1857) and phenobarbital (1912), the ketogenic diet was widely used and studied. This changed in 1938 when H. Houston Merritt, Jr. and Tracy Putnam discovered phenytoin (Dilantin), and the focus of research shifted to discovering new drugs. With the introduction of sodium valproate in the 1970s, drugs were available to neurologists that were effective across a broad range of epileptic syndromes and seizure types. The use of the ketogenic diet, by this time restricted to difficult cases such as Lennox–Gastaut syndrome, declined further.[10]

Can I drink alcohol on keto

I would just keep to the same scheme as your breakfast, making sure you stay at around 400 calories pr meal with with 85% of those coming from fat. I am sure you will start seeing benefits. **Make sure to drink a lot of water too** and watch that you are having enough salt – get a good mineral salt, or eat something with enough magnesium. My dad started this diet and he is 85. After about 2 weeks he is a different man – more energy, and better sleeps.
